On February 22, 2018, I was honored and privileged to join my friend Tiffany Werhner, on her radio show Moments of Clarity.
Her show focuses on all areas of mental health. I am extremely humbled and I am proud of Tiffany for her wonderful work. Like Tiffany, stomping out stigma is part of my mission.
This being my second appearance on the radio, I was much more at ease. I had such a fun time and was grateful I was there to talk to Tiffany. Our time was over in a heartbeat.
Psychosis during my manic episodes was the topic of the day. I can talk about this subject for hours on end, but we could condense the time down to less than an hour.
Please be aware that some stories are hard to hear. They are somewhat graphic and could be a trigger.
I go into detail about living through delusions and hallucinations. It is a very hard topic for many to discuss. In fact, I never hear about psychosis unless it is directly related to a film or book. Stigma has held us back for far too long and I hope to shed some light on a very taboo topic related to mental health.
With bipolar disorder, you can experience psychosis while manic, and some individuals can have it while depressed too.
Psychosis is extremely scary and unnerving. You believe things and see things that are not real and not there.
Hallucinations can form from any of the 5 senses. For example, you can see and feel things that you believe to be there but are, in fact, not.
Delusions are something you believe to be true, but cannot be.
You can tune in to Moments of Clarity each week on Thursday and Friday, live from 12-1 pm Eastern time. You can listen in on the internet at www.tantalk1340.com or call in to join the discussion at 866-826-1340. If you live in the Tampa Bay area, you can listen in on the radio at 1340 AM or 106.1 FM.
