My Amazing Experience At The 2018 Fort Collins Comic Con

To say that I had an absolutely wonderful time at the 2018 Fort Collins Comic Con is an understatement. Pure bliss and excitement are the words that first come to mind.

The Fort Collins Comic Con took place on August 25-26, 2018 at the Northside Aztlan Community Center, from 9 am to 8 pm.

I am excited to share the fun and exciting details of my adventure.

My Background

I was first introduced to comic book collecting in the 1980s. At that time, I found my comic books at the local grocery store. Do you remember those wire comic book holders? They were pretty dingy but provided access to my first comic books.

After that, I was hooked.

I collected comic books into the mid-to-late 1990s.

During my journey as a comic book collector, I attended many comic book conventions. They used to take place in the banquet halls of various hotels. Back then, I had to look for an actual physical copy of a newspaper to find the date and place of any conventions.

The conventions were nowhere near the way they are now. Different stores and independent collectors set up shop in the banquet hall of a hotel. I brought a list of the comics in my collection. From there, I shopped around to find the best deals to fill the holes in my collection.

My first job was at a comic book store. I remember the excitement. I helped stock, organize, and do whatever else my boss needed me to do.

A few years ago, I attended my first comic book convention in over a decade. It was the Fort Collins Comic Con.

The 2018 Fort Collins Comic Con

My wife surprised me with tickets.

I woke up one morning, and she told me to see if I received a new e-mail from her. Sure enough, there was a receipt for the whole family to attend the 2018 FoCo Comic Con. Obviously, I couldn’t contain my utter elation. I had to jump around the room, dance, and scream out in happiness!

August 25th

The morning of August 25, I rounded the crew up and we drove to the MAX bus stop on the south side of town. For those of you who do not know, the MAX bus is part of the Fort Collins public transportation system. It runs from the south of Fort Collins, straight to the north side of town.

Lucky for us, the CSU Rams were playing. The bus system allows riders to travel for free on game days.

We took a 20-minute ride up through Fort Collins, arrived at the last stop up north, and walked to the Comic Con. Talk about a gorgeous and sunny day! It took us about 10 minutes to arrive at the North Aztlan Rec Center.

At The Con

The positive energy was tangible!

Everywhere I looked, people were smiling from ear to ear. It was a sight beyond compare.

We enjoyed the cosplay catwalk. My kiddos loved watching the attendees present their creative creations.

At our next stop, we visited the food trucks. There were so many amazing choices. We enjoyed ice cream, a fresh salad, a hummus wrap, and shaved ice.

From there, we stopped by the Ghost Busters exhibit. My son is a huge fan! In fact, the car from the movie drove up with the music blasting while we were there.

Of course, we ventured inside and spoke to the many vendors, artists, and authors. That took the most amount of time. I have a whole stack of business cards that I plan on going through this coming week.

There Were So Many Fun Things To Do

There were panel discussions, game rooms, and many other interactive displays. We just could not get to everything. We never even made it to the second floor or most of the side rooms.

After an amazing first day, I planned to go back on Sunday, August 26. Unfortunately, because of unforeseen circumstances, I could not do so. I planned on attending a few of the panels and talks on Sunday. I wish I could have made it, but I am grateful for the previous day I had.

If you have never attended a Comic Con, I suggest you try the Fort Collins Comic Con. I never can get down to the Denver Comic Con. Those of us up here in Northern Colorado can now be a part of the excitement.

I had such an amazing time and plan to spread the word whenever and wherever I can.

I can sum up my experience in the following statement:

I Give Two Thumbs Up For The 2018 Fort Collins Comic Con

I live in Fort Collins, Colorado. Now, I can share my love and passion for the creative with my fellow neighbors and those traveling in from the surrounding areas.

All badge sales from the Fort Collins Comic Con benefit the local Poudre River Public Library District. Last I heard, the goal was to reach $100,000! I hope they made it.

My experience was so enjoyable that I hope to volunteer next year, for the 2019 Fort Collins Comic Con.
